Halloween Traditions History
Halloween can be traced back to Celtic culture in Ireland. According to their Druid Religion, November 1st was New Year's. The celebration started on October 31st and lasted into the following day. The Spirits of all who had died within the year would rise up and roam the earth on that night. This was an evil night as the Spirits roamed the streets. Lord of Darkness, better known Lord Samhain would arrive to take the Spirits to the underworld.
The carving of the Jack-O-Lantern can also be traced back to the Irish Immigrants. As the Immigrants came to America, they started carving the Jack-O-Lanterns, as they were much easier then the turnips they carved in their native home.
Trick or Treating also started with the Irish, as they would go door to door to their neighbors and friends asking for contributions to the All Hollow's Eve celebration.
