Sweet plantains fried and lightly caramelized make a delicious Latin-inspired dessert. For those who love a sweet and savory combo, serve Maduros as a side dish with fried eggs and ham.

INGREDIENTS

DIRECTIONS

  1. Peel plantains. Diagonally cut plantains into 1-inch-thick slices. 
  2. Heat oil to 365°F in a saucepan or sauté pan.
  3. Carefully place several plantain pieces in oil and fry about 2-3 minutes on each side or until browned and lightly caramelized.
  4. Remove from oil and place on paper towels. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and a very light sprinkle of salt.
  5. Place in bowl and if desired serve warm with ice cream.
