Simmering Up Delicious Crockpot Recipes
The Crock-Pot® (or slow cooker) often gets a bad rap. Many people associate Crock-Pots with recipes their grandmother made that usually involved lots and lots of cream of mushroom soup. We’re here to tell you that the slow cooker is useful for much more than beef stroganoff. You can make delicious crock-pot recipes including main entrees, side dishes, even drinks and desserts.
According to CNET.com the Crock-Pot all started with beans. Well, actually a bean-based stew recipe from Lithuania called cholent. An inventor named Irving Naxon was inspired by how his grandmother’s unique preparation of cholent when she was growing up: cooking it overnight in the fading heat of a local bakery’s oven.
In order to provide a portable solution to the problematic slow cookers already on the market that cooked food unevenly, Naxon developed an appliance that integrated the crock inside of the heating unit so it would distribute heat more evenly. In 1936 he applied for a patent for the Naxon Beanery and in 1972 it was rebranded as the Crock-Pot. People, particularly those balancing home and work, have been enjoying the benefits of cooking “low and slow” ever since.
