By now most of us are experiencing warmer weather and more sunshine - and that can only mean one thing: Spring is right around the corner. So to celebrate, we wanted to share with you a fun and easy Homemade Easter Chalk Melts recipe. Chalk melts might even become your child's new favorite way to use chalk!
Plus, the secret ingredient is sugar. Sugar gives the colors more vibrancy and a smoother appearance than chalk. Many of us have seen fun activities such as ice painting or chalk painting so why should chalk be any different? Making homemade chalk melts is perfect for warmer weather. As Spring draws near, this craft comes to you just in time for Easter.
Supplies
- 3/4 cup Plaster of Paris
- 2-4 tablespoons tempera paint (in a variety of colors)
- 1/4 cup Dixie Crystals Extra Fine Granulated Sugar
- 1 cup cold water (make sure it's cold)
- Bunny Silicone Mold (or any other shape you want to use - hearts, holiday trees, snowflakes, etc.)
- Large mixing bowl
- Spoon or mixing stick
Directions
- Start by placing your sugar into a large bowl or cup.
- Add your chosen color of paint and mix well.
- Add your cold water and stir until the entire mixture is dissolved.
- Now add your plaster of paris. You want to stir until you do not see any major clumps.
- Pour the mixture into your mold filing each cavity entirely. You can repeat the steps above for different colors.
- Place the mold into the freezer overnight.
- When ready to use, pop out the chalk melts from the mold and head outside for some fun! Note: these do get messy and since they are melts, they are supposed to melt away during use.
