Christmas Candy Trees

Christmas Candy Trees

Description

Make a party or table decoration that looks good enough to eat. Candy-covered Christmas trees are a great project for even the youngest of crafters because frosting serves as the glue to hold everything in place. The end result looks (and tastes) great!

Supplies

  • Peppermints and/or Red Hots Candy
  • Cone/Tree shaped base (we used paper mache cones from a local craft store)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, soft
  • 3 cups sifted Imperial Sugar Confectioners Powdered Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk or cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt

Directions

  1. Prepare buttercream frosting. Cream butter until light and fluffy. Add one cup of powdered sugar and mix until light and creamy.
  2. Gradually add remaining powdered sugar alternating with cream or milk. Scrape bowl well. Whip until very light and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt and combine well.
  3. Spread frosting all over the cone. Apply generously and in a circular motion so candy will stick.
  4. Attach candy row by row.
  5. Let dry overnight.
