Make a party or table decoration that looks good enough to eat. Candy-covered Christmas trees are a great project for even the youngest of crafters because frosting serves as the glue to hold everything in place. The end result looks (and tastes) great!
- Peppermints and/or Red Hots Candy
- Cone/Tree shaped base (we used paper mache cones from a local craft store)
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, soft
- 3 cups sifted Imperial Sugar Confectioners Powdered Sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk or cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- Pinch salt
- Prepare buttercream frosting. Cream butter until light and fluffy. Add one cup of powdered sugar and mix until light and creamy.
- Gradually add remaining powdered sugar alternating with cream or milk. Scrape bowl well. Whip until very light and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt and combine well.
- Spread frosting all over the cone. Apply generously and in a circular motion so candy will stick.
- Attach candy row by row.
- Let dry overnight.
