Fall Marshmallow Apple Treats


Kids will love making and eating this adorable fall edible craft! These treats are hand-held and perfect for a school Thanksgiving Day party, a family gathering or a teacher gift. These "apples" are easy to make, and almost too cute to eat!

Homemade fondant leaves decorate the tops of the apples - and you won't believe how easy they are to make! Just pop marshmallows into a bowl in the microwave, and stir with other ingredients. After wrapping, you can let it sit in the fridge for one hour if you're in a hurry, or let it sit on the counter for one day. These treats on a stick make it easy for little hands to pick up - no fork needed!

You can wrap these up in cellophane, tie with ribbon and use our free printable gift tags for a thoughtful teacher, friend or neighbor gift. Write "I'm thankful for you" or "Here's an apple for my teacher" as a way to show your appreciation for others this Thanksgiving holiday.



Green Fondant

  1. Put mini marshmallows and water in a large microwaveable bowl and heat in 20 second increments. Stir in between heating sessions.
  2. Heat until marshmallows have melted and mixture is smooth and resembles marshmallow fluff.
  3. Continue to add powdered sugar, about a cup at a time waiting for previous added amount to be fully incorporated.
  4. Reserve about 1/2 cup of powdered sugar.
  5. Add shortening or butter and knead into dough. Add flavor and food color as desired. Knead in remaining powdered sugar.
  6. Wrap fondant in plastic food wrap. If needing fondant quickly, place in refrigerator for about an hour. Otherwise keep at room temperature until following day(s).
  7. For a firmer fondant, knead in additional powdered sugar.
  8. Take a small bit of fondant and shape into small green leaves. Use a toothpick to draw veins in each leaf. Set aside.

Marshmallow Apples

  1. In a small bowl, mix sugar with a few drops of red food coloring. Set aside.
  2. Melt red candy melts according to package.
  3. Insert a lollipop stick into a marshmallow and dip into the candy melts until fully covered.
  4. Immediately cover marshmallow in red colored sugar.
  5. Add a piece of a pretzel stick for a stem and a fondant leaf. The melted chocolate should be enough to adhere the leaf, but if it's already hardened, add a bit more melted chocolate.
  6. Set aside to dry. We poked ours into a piece of styrofoam so they would keep their shape until they were ready to serve.
  7. Wrap in cellophane and tie with ribbon if giving these for a gift.
