Brown Sugar Bacon Brussels Sprouts with Candied Walnuts

Ingredients

  • 5 slices bacon
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons Dixie Crystals Light Brown Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup candied walnuts
  • 1 pound brussels sprouts, ends trimmed and sliced in half

      Directions

      1. Place bacon in a large saute pan and cook over medium heat for 8 minutes or until crisp.
      2. Remove bacon with tongs. Crumble bacon and set aside.
      3. In same pan with bacon drippings, whisk in broth, light brown sugar and salt. Bring liquid to a boil, reduce to medium heat and then add the Brussels sprouts, cook for 6 1/2 minutes with lid on pan. Drain broth from pan (leaving the Brussels sprouts in pan).
      4. Add candied walnuts to pan and saute for 2 minutes over medium high heat.
      5. Place in serving bowl. Sprinkle with bacon.

      We love brussels sprouts in our house and loved this recipe. The sweet and savory was a perfect mix for this side dish. Will definitely be making this again!

      Coles de Bruselas Con Azúcar Morena, Tocineta y Nueces Confitadas

      Ingredientes

      • 5 rebanadas de tocineta
      • 2 tazas caldo de pollo
      • 2 cucharadas Dixie Crystals Azúcar Morena Clara
      • 1 cucharadita de sal
      • 1 libra de coles de Bruselas, limpias y cortadas a la mitad
      • 1/2 taza de nueces confitadas

      Direcciones

      1. Coloque la tocineta en un sartén  y cocine a fuego medio por 8 minutos o hasta que estén crujientes.
      2. Remuevo la tocineta con unas tenazas. Desmorone la tocineta y ponga a un lado.
      3. En el mismo sartén donde está la grasa del tocino, bata con una espumadora el caldo, el azúcar morena clara y la sal. Ponga a hervir el líquido, reduzca la temperatura a media y luego agregue las coles de Bruselas, cocine por 6 1/2 minutos con una tapa. Drene el caldo de el sartén (deje las coles de Bruselas en el sartén).
      4. Agregue las nueces confitadas a él sartén y saltear a fuego medio-alto por 2 minutos.
      5. Coloque en un tazón de servir. Espolvoree con la tocineta.
